WELCOME AND CONGRATULATIONS

NEW AMERICAN LEGION MEMBERS

NEW AMERICAN LEGION MEMBERS

You are now part of our Post 66 American Legion Family! We hope your involvement will be a rewarding experience.

Our American Legion Family consists of the members of Post 66, Auxiliary Unit 66, Sons of The American Legion Squadron 66, and the American Legion Riders Chapter 66. Working together our American Legion Family serve the veterans, their families, and the greater San Luis Obispo (SLO) community.

The heart of The American Legion lies in the heart of our members, good veterans like you, that have served our nation with honor. This has been true for over 100 years for both The American Legion at the national level and for Post 66. We received our charter in September of 1919, shortly after the end of World War One.

As a nonprofit veterans service organization, we have always done our best to serve our veterans, their families, and the SLO community. The last few years have presented exceptional challenges to our programs and finances due to the COVID 19 epidemic. We are starting the road to recovery from these recent hard times, you and other new members will decide our future

The Preamble of The American Legion Constitution

For God and Country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes: To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America;
To maintain law and order;
To foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent Americanism;
To preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in all wars; To inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; To combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses;
To make right the master of might;
To promote peace and goodwill on earth;
To safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy;

To consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.

The American Legion Uniform

“Blue Cappers” focuses on the importance of The American Legion uniform, a cap. It also explains how to purchase a cap. Past National Commander, Charles Schmidt also shares comments about “Blue Cappers.”

You can purchase your uniform cap at Flag & Emblem Sales, the online store of  The American Legion. Post 66 members wear the regular style cap, your choice of lined or unlined, and the City of San Luis Obispo embroidered on the left side. If you have any questions contact the Post 66 Adjutant.
